5) Tall city Building apartment
-For those of you that live in the city, your best bet would either be somehow getting out early, or trying to hold up in a high rise apartment with as much supplies as you can gather.
Advantages:
- Lots of doors that can be locked/barricaded
- No threat of zombies entering through the windows
- Good, safe view of what the situation is like on the ground
- Possibility of roof rescue if you can make it up there
Disadvantages:
- Nearly impossible to escape by going down to ground level
- Most tall buildings in crowded places (lots of zombies around)
- Little supplies, and very difficult to resupply
- Only one way in/out of many places so you could get trapped
- Hard to come in contact with other survivors
4) Car/camper, on the move
Advantages
- Mobile, so you can always find the most suitable place to rest
- Compact: you can always lock the doors and try and cover up the windows if you need to hide
- Cars are big enough to hold quite a bit of supplies, and you can find more as you drive around
- Chance to meet many other survivors
Disadvantages
- Could drive into bad areas; putting yourself into more sticky situations
- You need GASOLINE, and so would eeeeeverybody else
- Can pop tires/need car maintenance
- Car could get stolen
- Other survivors would get up in your grill cause they'd want your car (kinda like that scene from War of the Worlds where they enter the village and everybody fights over their car so they just get out)
3) Campsite in the wilderness
Advantages (for if you can find a remote location)
- Few people, therefore few zombies
- ample animals for hunting, and vegetation for gathering
- Can eventually become self sustainable, if you build up your camp
- Can bring lots of people with you
- open fires aren't that much of an issue in tree cover
Disadvantages
- If you don't know how to hunt, or gather roots/fruit, food could be an issue
- You could get stranded
- low temps could be a problem if you don't have the right gear
- you could get ambushed by wandering zombies if you don't set a watch, and there is nowhere to hide if this happens
Suggestions:
- Map out the area
- Make a trail that leads back to civilization in case you need supplies
- Always set a watch guard especially at night
- When gathering water, check first upstream to check for signs of infected contact (ie a zombie body) because the source of the water supply could be infected
2) At Home (assuming you don't live in an extremely populated area, in which case bail on this idea)
Advantages
- YOU DONT HAVE TO GO ANYWHERE (with zombies running around this is huge)
- You have all your belongings and loved ones
- You know where all of your supplies are and can easily organize yourself
- You know your surroundings, and possible sources of help
- You have a car/cars to head back into town from you garage to get supplies
- If you have a well, your water source is never ending, and secure
Disadvantages
- Lots of windows
- Sort of a sitting duck situation once zombies find out where you are
- Paranoia of gather supplies, or leaving the house
Suggestions
- Board up all doors/windows from in and outside if you can, and use the garage (if it is attached to your house like mine is) as the only way to get in or out
- If you have guns, station people with them on the second floor (cause you don't have to board up these windows), above weak points in your defenses
1) Walmart!!!!!
Yes. Not K-Mart. Not any other "mart." It has to be Walmart.
Advantages
- EVERYTHING YOU NEED
- -health supplies
- -guns
- -food
- -water/soda/juice/all drinks known to man
- -toys?? (Still gotta have fun AMIRIT?!)
- Probably will be other survivors there you can work with
- Only one/two main entrances that you'd have to barricade
Disadvantages
- Infected could make it inside before defenses/barricades get set up or even before you get there
- Might be hard to get to a Walmart in time before they lock it all up from the outside world
Suggestions
- -Use the tall aisle furniture as barricades (you can see through but can't really get through).
- -Set up barricades throughout the store so you can fall back to say the auto repair part of the store if zombies make it through the front door barricades and take over the checkout isles section (I'd make the grocery section the last defense so you never lose your food supply)
- -Ration food by how long it lasts (eat all the meat and fruit first so it doesn't rot then start going for the fruit loops and frozen pizza
My hold out Strategy:
If you've seen the college senior memes: yes I have plans for a zombie apocalypse and no idea what I am going to do as a career.
First, I'd probably use the at home option. You don't have to go there, and you can invite your friends over while keeping your family safe and close. My house is also pretty remote and defensible, so this is a great option for me.
Inevitably, we would run out of food and supplies. When this happens, I'd gather supplies and weapons and head to Walmart to see what the situation is there. Hopefully they are barricaded in, but have a door they can unlock in the back. If there is a big zombie horde in front of it, I'd park nearby then sneak to the back entrance.
This way I avoid the potential initial infection outbreak inside Walmart, and still get to benefit from it's bountiful harvest of endless supplies.
OK. This is pretty weird. Don't laugh, but what is a "Zombie Apocalypse?"
